How plate registration works in Canada

Typical documents include proof of identity, proof of Canadian residency in the province, the vehicle's bill of sale or transfer document, and a valid safety or emissions inspection where applicable.

Every province requires a minimum level of vehicle insurance before a plate can be issued. In BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Québec, insurance is administered publicly and bundled with registration.
